An Unforgettable Educational Adventure: Our Erasmus+ Mobility in Sicily (Italy)

From March 31st to April 5th, 2025, we lived an experience that left a lasting mark on us all. Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, we had the incredible opportunity to embark on an educational mobility to Sicily, specifically to CPIA Catania 2, an adult education centre with which we shared much more than just classrooms: we shared dreams, learning, and heartfelt emotions.

Our project revolved around a towering giant that dominates both the landscape and the spirit of the island: Mount Etna. This mighty volcano offered us not only a living geography lesson but also a profound insight into the history, architecture, gastronomy, and soul of Sicily. We discovered how the trembling earth shapes everything around it, and we truly understood what it means to learn with all five senses.

During those intense days, we learned curricular content in the classroom… but so much more beyond it. We immersed ourselves in culture, picked up Italian phrases that are now part of our daily vocabulary (prego!), savoured unforgettable flavours, and listened to passionate local stories. We practiced English, broke through language and cultural barriers, and, most importantly, we discovered ourselves as part of something much bigger.

But what we carry most deeply in our hearts is the family we formed. Students and teachers lived this adventure as a true team. We shared laughter, learning, and life-changing moments that none of us will ever forget.

Thank you to the dedicated teachers who guided and worked on this project, and to all the wonderful students who were so grateful and warm, showing us constant appreciation — not just for us as teachers, but for our centre, CEPA Distrito Centro.

Del 31 de marzo al 5 de abril de 2025 vivimos una experiencia que nos marcó para siempre. Gracias al programa Erasmus+, tuvimos la oportunidad de embarcarnos en una movilidad educativa a Sicilia, concretamente al CPIA Catania 2, un centro de adultos con el que compartimos algo más que clases: compartimos sueños, aprendizajes y emociones.

Nuestro proyecto giró en torno a un gigante imponente que domina el paisaje y la vida de la isla: el volcán Etna. Este coloso nos ofreció no solo una lección de geografía viva, sino una mirada profunda a la historia, la arquitectura, la gastronomía y el alma de Sicilia. Descubrimos cómo la tierra que tiembla bajo los pies da forma a todo lo que la rodea, y comprendimos de verdad lo que significa aprender con los cinco sentidos.

Durante esos días intensos, aprendimos contenidos curriculares en el aula... pero también mucho más allá de ella. Nos empapamos de cultura, de palabras en italiano que ya forman parte de nuestro día a día (¡prego!), de sabores inolvidables, de historias locales llenas de pasión. Practicamos inglés, rompimos barreras idiomáticas y culturales, y, sobre todo, nos descubrimos a nosotros mismos como parte de algo más grande.

Pero si algo nos llevamos en el corazón es la familia que formamos. Alumnado y profesorado vivimos esta aventura como un verdadero equipo.
